Art Bus LNK returns to Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – How many artists can you fit inside an old city bus? It’s probably not a question you’ve asked yourself recently, but a Lincoln nonprofit has the answer: About 15 people can fit on the new version of the Art Bus LNK that was unveiled Sunday.

The free, traveling art studio began in 2020, traveling to neighborhoods and schools around Lincoln, filled with blank canvases ready to be decorated by community children like an arts and crafts ice cream truck.

After being on hiatus since 2023, they reopened on Sunday with a facelift, suitable for any type of artist.

“So our goal is accessibility,” said Letura Idigma, founder of Art Bus LNK. “We found this city bus, and it’s wheelchair friendly and ADA compliant. This will enable us to continue our mission of reaching all children and people in our community, whatever their needs.

The city bus was entirely funded by money raised through community donations. The bus’s main focus right now is painting, but its owner said other mediums, like sewing and sculpture, will be added in the near future.

During the winter, the bus will remain parked next to their in-person studio, but come spring, they plan to put the wheels back on and start driving it around town each week.

The bus will organize artistic events throughout the winter, which you can follow on its website.

Once it starts traveling next spring, its weekly bus route will also be posted for people to follow on their website.
