EU aims to provide political and technical support to Bangladesh’s reform initiatives

The European Union (EU) stands ready to provide political and technical support to the reform initiatives of the interim government of Bangladesh.

This was revealed today as the new EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, accompanied by the Deputy Director General of the Asia-Pacific Department of the European External Action Service, paid an introductory courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Md Jashim Uddin, this afternoon in the latter’s office. press release.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister mentioned that the EU was an important partner of Bangladesh and looked forward to strong future engagements in all areas.

He highlighted the priorities of the interim government, including deep reforms in different sectors and the formation of competent reform commissions for this purpose.

It shed light on the backdrop of the unprecedented student-led mass uprising and carries the broad aspirations of the youth for a country free of discrimination.

Referring to the meeting between the senior adviser of Bangladesh and the president of the European Commission on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Jashim expressed their desire to continue working with the EU in a spirit of long-standing collaboration and shared aspirations.

Pampaloni highlighted that Bangladesh-EU relations have evolved from a development-focused partnership to a broad-based strategic partnership.

Both sides appreciated the exchange of messages between the senior dignitaries after the formation of the caretaker government and the upcoming discussion on the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement aimed at elevating Bangladesh-EU relations to a new level.

The two sides also discussed the upcoming Bangladesh-EU Joint Commission meeting, trade and investment, preferential trade mechanism beyond 2029 and labor sector reform.
