I rewatched Ella Enchanted for the first time in years, and there’s one thing that really bothers me

If you know me, you would know that I am a big lover of the best fantasy films. Whether it’s reviewing the world of Harry Potter or is it being checked THE Lord of the Rings films for the first time, I’ve always loved having fun in the worlds of monsters, magic and much more. But do you want to know a movie that I have forgotten about until now? Ella Enchanted.

I decided to watch the film again after a extremely long day of cleaning, and I really forgot how magical the movie is and how good it makes me feel. But something else struck me afterwards that made me want to write this, a specific aspect of the film that bothers me. And that might not be what you think, because that’s not a problem with the movie itself.

Let’s go.

First of all, the film is still as magical as I remember it

If you haven’t seen Ella Enchanted, please stop reading this article now and check it out. I assure you it’s as fun as you can imagine. If you don’t know what the movie is about, Ella Enchanted follows the main character as she embarks on a quest across her country to find the fairy who offered her “obedience.” This gift basically means that Ella is doing what everyone is asking her to do – and clearly, she wants to. disappeared as she gets older.

The entire film is complete so many funny moments that made me smile and laugh throughout. For me, it’s one of the The best Anne Hathaway films because it was at one of the high points of his career, and his chemistry with Hugh Dancy is some of the best I’ve seen in a fantasy film.

You can clearly tell that this film was a product of the rapidly developing CGI technology at the time and the effects are pretty good. But the magic, the fun and everything else makes it an enjoyable movie. But you want to know what’s bothering me?

How can we not have more musicals on jukeboxes?

But it makes me think why we don’t have more fun musicals like this

I feel like there was a time when jukebox musicals were on top of the world. From the re-watchable Mama Mia! has Jersey Boys, Happy Feet, and many more, it seems that they have all… fallen.

Before coming to me…Yes, I know that Joker: Folie à Deux was technically a jukebox musical, but I don’t really count that in the same realm as this magical movie. Joker: Folie à Deux the musical aspect was well donebut it was more about responding to the characters’ backstory and the mania behind their mental health rather than Really entertain the public.

When I think of a classic jukebox musical, I think of songs that advance the plot, give meaning to the story, and aren’t just thrown in there for the sake of being a musical. There have been a few in the last decade – like Rocket Man, Amazon Prime Cinderella, and the useless Mom Mia! Here we go again – but none have quite reached the heights of what jukebox musicals once were.

And this movie is precisely what I think of when jukebox musicals come to mind. It’s not replaced by songs, but enough to add to the story, put a pep in your step, and make you smile along the way.

I think with the right types of songs, Jukebox musicals could still work

There is a lot modern musicals out there that are considered jukebox musicals. Something new Michael Jackson show on Broadway to the Carole King musical and much more – all of which I really think would work well adapted into a large-scale film.

But they don’t even have to be on Broadway to work. I mean, think about Joy. There are so many fantastic Joy coversand the show itself was just one long jukebox musical. While it certainly overstayed its welcome on television, it was huge for a long time, and for good reason. If you have someone willing and able behind the scenes to choose the right songs, you can make magic happen.

I’m trying to say that there should be a lot more jukebox musicals, a lot more often. We get them from time to time, but they don’t stand out as much as they used to. Of course, there are plenty of great titles that have nothing to do with musicals, many of which are being released as part of the 2024 movie schedule.

But sometimes you need something like this to make you smile on a bad day – and I wish there were more movies exactly like this Ella Enchanted. Maybe one day we’ll get there. For now, I guess I’ll watch this again.
