Three people are stabbed during a fight at a bus station

Three people were taken to hospital with knife wounds after a fight at a bus station.

Northumbria Police said they were called to Blyth bus station, Northumberland, shortly after 00:50 GMT.

Three men were found with non-life-threatening knife wounds and were taken to hospital. Two have since been released, police said.

A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the attack and taken into custody.

Cordons remain in place in parts of the city, the force said, including around the bus station.

“An investigation has been opened to establish all the circumstances and locate the people involved,” said a spokesperson.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service said its intensive care team was “activated” at 0103 GMT following reports of an assault in the Bridge Street area of Blyth.

He said his team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to treat three patients.

Bus operator Arriva North East said the bus station was closed due to a “police incident”, with services departing from several locations including Union Street, Regent Street and the Oddfellow Arms bus stop.
