Montclair Foundation launches $4.25 million fundraising campaign

The nonprofit Montclair Foundation publicly launched “Good Grows Here,” a fundraising campaign aimed at raising $4.25 million to strengthen the organization’s grant and education programs while preserving home and historic gardens of Van Vleck. The campaign, which began its quiet phase in spring 2023, has already raised $4 million from nearly 50 major donors, prompting the foundation to increase its initial goal of $4 million to $4.25 million dollars.

Campaign priorities include connecting the community to nature, advancing educational opportunities, supporting mental health initiatives and fighting hunger. Half of the funds raised will be dedicated to strategic investments in the Van Vleck Estate, including capital improvements and program expansion. The other half will fund flagship grant initiatives, providing long-term support to influential organizations addressing community needs.

“The public launch of this campaign is a testament to our community’s belief in a shared vision for a vibrant future, and the campaign will have an enormous impact,” said Mark Packer, executive director of the Montclair Foundation.

The foundation remains dedicated to the preservation of the Van Vleck House and Gardens, which welcomes more than 25,000 visitors each year and serves as a vital community center. The estate offers families “a peaceful retreat and numerous cultural and educational opportunities.” Additionally, the foundation funds local nonprofit organizations that address critical issues such as homelessness, hunger, education, domestic violence and safety.

“Raising my family here has been a privilege, surrounded by the vibrant spirit and values of our city,” said Cathy Garrity, chair of the Montclair Foundation Board of Trustees. “Being chairman of the board and leading the capital campaign allowed me to give back to the community that has given us so much. Together, we are building a better future for the next generation, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be part of this mission.
