Dragon Age: The Veilkeeper expected to be the first game in the series without any plans for post-launch DLC as developer BioWare looks ahead to the next Mass Effect 5.

Talk to rolling stoneDragon Age: Veilguard creative director John Epler reportedly reiterated that the new fantasy RPG would not follow in the footsteps of its predecessors as the studio currently has no plans for future additions. Dragon Age has had various fan-favorite expansions over the years, but the sudden change is believed to be the result of BioWare’s “full attention” being entirely focused on the next Mass Effect game currently in development.

BioWare will likely continue to provide Dragon Age: The Veilguard with some patches or quality of life updates, although a larger expansion to live up to its previous efforts appears to be in the rearview mirror. This might come as a surprise to longtime fans, however, since Dragon Age: Origins’ Awakening expansion and Inquisition’s Trespasser epilogue are so beloved. And this story with excellent DLC even extended to Mass Effect, with Lair of the Shadow Broker and the Citadel as highlights.

However, focusing on Mass Effect 5 isn’t the only reason for the lack of Veilguard expansions. The game’s director, Corrine Busche, previously explained that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would not get DLC because the game was designed as a complete experienceand while she also likes expansions like Trespasser, she admitted that something this big probably should have been part of the main game itself. I also haven’t finished The Veilguard, but I suppose it would be a bit difficult to follow up on the conclusion of a saga that lasted 10 years.
