Women’s rights activist forced to leave lesbian bar ‘after trans partygoer complains about her presence’

A leading campaigner for women-only spaces claims she was kicked out of a lesbian bar after a transgender patron complained about her presence.

Jenny Watson, 32, says she was accused of a “hate crime” over the traumatic incident, and claims the bouncers removed her with such force that she was left with bruised wrists.

Although she had no interaction with anyone other than her friends at She bar in Soho, London, last month, she believes a transgender customer recognized her on social media and urged the staff to kick her out.

Ms Watson said staff told her she had “committed a hate crime” without specifying what, adding: “I suspect this trans-identified man went to the staff because he recognized me and then They made this decision because of what he said.” The expulsion was clearly motivated by my beliefs.

Ms Watson, a town planner, is now considering whether to take legal action, as it is illegal to discriminate based on critical gender views.

She rejected any suggestion of transphobia: “I never say anything hateful. I believe in gender dysphoria and the existence of trans people.

But she argues that as more men identify as women and lesbians, it becomes necessary to protect single-sex spaces. She plans to launch her own bar and dating app just for biologically female lesbians.

“Lesbians are under attack, not from the outside world, but from the LGBTQ+ movement. If a man can dictate who stays at a lesbian bar, then lesbian spaces are no longer safe for lesbians. This must change.

A spokeswoman for the law society said it had provided “a safe and welcoming environment for the LGBTQ+ community” for more than 20 years, and that police had intervened and “dismissed any allegations of unlawful eviction”.

Ms Watson was embroiled in a row over transphobia last year when she said only “adult human women” could join her lesbian speed-dating events.
