” I finished ! »: Conservative columnist leaves Washington Post after livestream collapse

Conservative Washington Post columnist Hugh Hewitt revealed he left the paper Friday following an on-air spat with reporter Jonathan Capehart over Donald Trump» is the rhetoric of the presidential election.

“I’m not coming back, Jonathan. I’m done!” Hewitt said on the Washington Post Live show “First Look”removing his earpiece and storming off.

“It’s the most unfair election ad I’ve ever been a part of,” he told Capehart and another Post editor, Ruth Marcus. “You guys are working. It’s very good. I finished.”

Hewitt’s reaction came after Capehart suggested Trump was “setting the stage to challenge” the results of this year’s vote, following the recent assertion of the Republican presidential candidate that there had been “cheating” in Pennsylvania.

Hewitt, who said that he voted for Trump last month, Marcus interrupted as she predicted the former president would “get his supporters to run for office” and also go to court to make “whatever arguments he can, however far-fetched they may be.”

“We are journalists, even if we have opinions, and we have to report the whole story if we tell part of it,” Hewitt said.

“Yes, he’s upset about Bucks County (in Pennsylvania), but he was right and he won in court,” Hewitt said of Trump. “That’s the story.”

Hewitt was referring to a Pennsylvania judge who agreed Wednesday to extend an early voting deadline in Bucks County. The Trump campaign filed a lawsuit reports of long lines and turned away voters while they were waiting to apply in person for a postal vote.

Capehart said he did not “appreciate being lectured about journalism” while Hewitt shared “a lot of things that are not basic facts” on the Post show.

This response led to Hewitt’s collapse, and the program subsequently experienced technical difficulties before Capehart terminated it.

“Everyone, if you’ve watched ‘First Look,’ you know these conversations can be interesting and controversial,” Capehart said.

“You just saw Hugh Hewitt leave the conversation, which is sad, unfortunate. That’s how it is.”

Hewitt, who has contributed columns to the Post since 2017, told the newspaper’s editorial page editor that he was leaving on Friday, as reported by Fox News Digital.

“I actually left the Post, but I only wrote a column for them every six weeks or so,” Hewitt told the outlet.
