Wiltshire council fines flying tippers £3,000

The Salisbury company was fined £1,000 after enforcement officers responded to an ongoing litter problem at St Pauls roundabout on August 1.

Two black bags were discovered at the exit of the parking area, just under a sign warning people against illegal dumping.

Following an investigation, a local business was subsequently awarded an FPN.

A further £1,000 FPN was issued to an Amesbury business after it was found to be using public bins to dispose of commercial waste, avoiding waste disposal costs.

Business owners are required to take all reasonable steps to ensure that their waste is collected, stored and disposed of legally and all waste must be collected by a registered waste carrier licensed to collect commercial waste before being disposed of at an authorized site.

A Hilperton resident was also fined £1,000 after household waste was found on Warminster Old Road in Upton Scudamore.

The waste was then traced to the resident, who admitted to having left it in a ditch on her way to the landfill, following concerns about the presence of maggots in her vehicle.
