2 people charged with attempted murder after shooting at Sudbury grocery store

Sudbury police have charged two people with attempted murder after a man was shot and killed Thursday at the self-checkout counter of a local grocery store.

Police said officers were dispatched to a Food Basics grocery store on Notre Dame Avenue on Thursday, shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Police said everyone involved in the shooting, including the 31-year-old man, fled the scene after the incident occurred.

The man was eventually transported to hospital, where his injuries were not life-threatening.

During their investigation, police said they were led to a home on Baker Street, where they found a teenager who matched the description of the shooter.

The 17-year-old man ran away from the home, but K-9 unit officers found him a short time later.

Police recovered the firearm they believe was used in the shooting. They also charged the 17-year-old with attempted murder and several offenses related to the unauthorized use and possession of a firearm.

Police later arrested a 22-year-old man and also charged him with attempted murder and other offences.

Police said the shooting was a targeted incident and those involved knew each other.
