City of Calgary receives pitch for crosswalk honoring veterans

A local organization wants to establish a permanent memory of the sacrifice of Canadians in war.

Homes for Heroes and the Forest Lawn Community Association plan to paint a crosswalk to honor veterans.

This would be at 36 St. SE, near the Veterans Village.

Gar Gar, president of the community association, cites other cities that have reiterated the importance of veterans throughout the year.

“It means so much,” Gar Gar said, “because in many cases the voices of veterans are not heard. And this one is basically an opportunity to say that your voice has been heard and your voices matter and we look forward to that.

Gar says they contacted the city with this idea and received a positive response within a day or two.
