Local families enjoy a fun-filled half-term day to support community food projects

The HCFN supports more than 50 food banks, community kitchens and other food projects, while the Antwerp Arms is based opposite Bruce Castle Park and provides a safe space for those in need to enjoy a hot meal every Tuesdays.

Joanna Yeung from the Foundation, who led the organization of the fun day, said: “Hundreds of families descended on the grounds of Bruce Castle and it created a truly special atmosphere.

“The club, Foundation and fans are proud to support community food projects, so we are delighted to continue this through the Premier League Fans’ Fund.”

Data released last year showed a third of Haringey residents were food insecure and unable to consistently provide healthy food to their households.

The leading causes of premature death in Haringey are cancer (37 per cent) and cardiovascular disease (24 per cent), with food poverty among the factors that may be linked.

The Foundation will organize further football tournaments involving groups of supporters and members of the local community later this season, with the next taking place on Saturday 7 December.
