Election in Regina: here are the candidates for Ward 3

Ward 3 will cover a smaller portion of the city to the south/southwest, but has a voting population of 21,078, making it the second highest after Ward 6 in number of eligible voters.

It includes the Lakeview and Cathedral community associations as well as school subdivisions five and three.

Outgoing advisor. Andrew Stevens, who has served on the council for more than eight years, is not seeking re-election, leaving three new candidates vying for the City Hall seat.

Barry Wilkie, David Froh and Faaiq Tanveer are present in Ward 3.

Wilkie, who has lived in Ward 3 his entire life, says he offers years of business experience that would help the city grow by making “smart decisions, not political decisions.”

“My goal is to hold the city accountable for poor business decisions,” reads Wilkie’s profile on the city’s website. “We must become financially responsible and accountable for all capital expenditures. Our infrastructure should be our (number one) priority. We can no longer allow bad decisions to be made in our city,” Wilkie’s profile also states.

David Froh is also a lifelong resident of Ward 3 and says he will have extensive experience in community development.

Currently, Froh is a community leader with high-level experience in economic and community development. He is currently the Vice President of the Regina Food Bank and most recently served as Regina’s Vice President of Economic Development.

“I have a track record of creating opportunity and community and getting things done for Regina,” Froh says in his campaign video. “I believe in creating a more inclusive, sustainable, vibrant and prosperous Regina,” Froh also says.

Tanveer lists five priorities he would focus on if elected.

Security, affordability, economic growth, tax reform and inclusiveness.

Tanveer says he has a background in accounting and finance as well as experience running a business. This experience brings expertise in strategic planning and effective problem-solving skills, says Tanveer.

“I believe in practical solutions. With my degree in accounting and finance, my experience running a business, and my work as a volunteer, I have a strong foundation in planning and problem solving. I am committed to putting our community first, listening to your concerns, and being a strong representative. Tanveer says in his campaign video.

Advance voting opened on November 1 and polling day is set for November 13.
