Season 4 of Superman & Lois is halfway over, and there’s a big Lex Luthor moment I have to see before the DC TV show ends

Warning: SPOILERS for the first five episodes of Superman and Lois Season 4 is early!

Following the premiere of “Break the Cycle” earlier this week on the TV schedule 2024which pulled back the curtain on Lex Luthor’s relationship with his daughter and ended with quite an apocalyptic twist, Superman and Lois Season 4 is now halfway through. There are only five episodes left until not only the season is over, but the DC TV show concludes its four seasons. As we go through these last few weeks, there’s one big Luthor moment that I hope is included before the end of the series: having him fight Superman.

So far, Michael Cudlitz’s version of the character has proven himself to be a brilliant man and a masterful schemer, with notable examples of these qualities including how he used Bruno Mannheim’s serum to transform the inverse Superman in Doomsday, as well as deducing that Jordan was Superboy and using that information to screw over his head. Until the events of “Break the Cycle”, Luthor didn’t have to worry about getting his hands dirty either. Doomsday served as his main muscle, the beast not only being responsible for temporarily kill Supermanbut also permanently killing Sam Lane.

But now Lex Luthor no longer has Doomsday at his disposal. At the end of “Break the Cycle,” we learned that Lois Lane was able to recall the monstrosity of his past life as Superman of the Inverse World and convince him not to continue targeting his family. Luthor was understandably furious to see his servant gone, and while I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that he tracks down Doomsday and finds a way to mentally control him to do as he pleases again, for now, this thing lives his own life. life. Sure, Luthor also has plenty of average goons he can arm with advanced technology, but I don’t want to Superman and Lois to finish without him having to finally confront Superman directly.

Now, there are several ways to achieve this. The first is that Lex Luthor could just use the aforementioned technology with some Kryptonite weapons, but that’s pretty boring. I would much rather see Luthor don the same type of armor as he does in the comics, which increases his strength and durability and allows him to fly and fire energy blasts, among other abilities. Jon CryerLuthor has his own battle armor for Supergirlso why can’t the Cudlitz incarnation follow… well, costume (no regrets).

As much as I would like to see that, we can’t forget that either. Superman and Lois was made on a much smaller budget compared to previous seasons. Between the usual visual effects needed for this series and the fact that it can’t be cheap to show Doomsday, there may not have been enough money to depict Luthor’s armor. Which brings me to a third option: have Superman and Luthor face off in a good old-fashioned brawl, without either man using any powers.

Since he was brought back to life with Sam Lane’s heart, Clark Kent’s powers began to wane. He also can’t hear, it’s harder for him to fly long distances, and he’s even drunk from alcohol now. It is entirely possible that in Superman and Lois‘last episode, all his powers will have disappeared. If that happens, then it’s pretty easy to imagine a scenario where he and Luthor are in the same room and the former will have to beat the latter using human-level strength. I’m still holding out hope for the battlesuit approach, but I think the writers could still make this brawl dramatically compelling.
