Punkeydoodles Corners is open after construction remodeled the unique intersection.

The new design closed the intersection of Oxford Road 24 and Punkeydoodles Avenue as well as Oxford Road 24 and Township Road 11.

This means traffic coming from Oxford Road 24 will only be able to turn at Oxford Road 5.

Turn lanes have also been added to Oxford Road 24.

“It’s definitely a unique situation,” said Melissa Abercombie, Oxford County’s director of engineering.

“It was mainly the bend that made the three roads cross,” she added.

According to Oxford County, improvements were planned at Punkeydoodles Corners, but those plans were expedited after a fatal accident in fall 2022.

“There was a tragic accident there and it accelerated the situation – everyone was (looking) at that intersection to see what we could do,” Abercrombie said.

Many in the community were hoping for a roundabout to address safety concerns.

The county says after studies of traffic volume, a roundabout didn’t make sense at this time.

“We are not saying that a roundabout is definitively ruled out. In 20 or 30 years, this could be the ultimate solution. It depends on traffic patterns and how we envision the intersection growing and changing over the years,” said Oxford Township Manager Marcus Ryan.
