Surrey Council has applied for permission for 12 cannabis retail stores in the city

City of Surrey staff are recommending that council authorize rezoning applications to allow eight successful applicants to open cannabis retail stores in 12 Surrey locations when the issue comes up for a vote on Monday.

By way of context, the City on April 8 define a “framework” for approving “a limited number” of cannabis retail stores – up to two in each of Surrey’s six communities – and launched a Request for Expression of Interest (“RFEOI”) process on July 19 which closed on September 19.

A total of 31 submissions were received over the two months.

Unsuccessful applications were rejected because they were incomplete or because the stores were too close to schools or community recreation centers.
