Winnipeg Jets’ Kyle Connor named NHL second star for October – The Hockey Writers – Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg Jets sniper Kyle Connor has been named the NHL’s second star for the month of October.

The 27-year-old is off to a torrid start, racking up nine goals and eight assists for 17 points. He has at least a point in every game this season for the Jets, leading the NHL with a mark of 9-1-0, and he is riding a five-game multi-point streak.

During the Jets’ most recent game against the Detroit Red Wings, Connor scored his 500th career point with an assist on Gabriel Vilardi’s game-opening goal at 2:48 of the first period. The 17th overall pick in 2015 then added another assist on Neal Pionk’s goal 74 seconds later that gave the Jets a two-goal lead and scored a goal of his own later for a three-point period . Reaching 500 in just 541 games makes him the fastest Jet in 2.0 history to accomplish this feat.

“Sometimes you ride” Connor said after reaching the milestone. “We can kind of get into a rhythm, especially when we have these games every other day it seems.”

Connor is currently tied for second in the NHL in goals and third in the NHL in points; if he maintains his current pace, he will become Jets 2.0’s first 50-goal, 100-point scorer. He and his team will try to keep the good times going as they begin a 14-game November slate tonight in Columbus against the Blue Jackets.
