Women’s FA Cup preview | Asfordby vs Wolves | Women’s first team | News

Wolves Women begin their 2024/25 Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign against Asfordby Amateurs on Sunday afternoon.

The Old Gold enjoyed a historic run to the fifth round last season, beating Stourbridge, Peterborough United, Hull City and Reading before ultimately bowing out despite a valiant effort against WSL side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Dan McNamara’s side reached the fifth round for the first time in the club’s modern history, scoring 22 goals throughout the run and also beating Championship opposition Reading.

Wolves advance to Sunday’s first round match against Asfordby after last weekend’s 6-0 win over Halifax took the team to the top of the Northern Premier Division.

The Old Gold have won eight of their 10 league matches so far this season and have found the net 35 times.

Sunday’s opponents Asfordby play in the East Midlands (Central) Regional League, the sixth tier of women’s football, where they are currently placed third and are managed by Leah Radford.

En route to the first round, Asfordby beat Radcliffe Olympic and Thrapston Town, before edging past Walsall on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
