Sexual assault of 13-year-old girl north of Oshawa leads to charges against Brampton man

A Brampton man is facing charges following an alleged sexual assault against a teenage girl in northern Durham Region.

Durham Regional Police confirmed they launched an investigation into the alleged assault of a 13-year-old girl on Tuesday. Investigators have not publicly confirmed the location of the attack; they only confirmed that it was in the north of the region. By Thursday, they had identified a suspect and decided to arrest him.

Jason Bent, 36, of Brampton, is charged with:

  • sexual assault
  • sexual contact
  • invitation to sexual touching
  • agreement to commit an offense against a person under 18
  • agreement to commit an offense against a person under 16
  • possession of child pornography

Bent is known to frequent Barrie, London and the Greater Toronto Area. He remains in detention. The accusations have not been proven in court.

“Investigators are committed to ensuring there are no additional victims and are appealing to any potential witnesses to come forward with any information they may have,” police said.
