ExpressVPN’s simple approach to virtually All is one of the main reasons why it is so popular across all platforms, and also why it regularly tops our charts. best VPN for iPhone list. It’s quick to set up, incredibly easy to use, and is the gold standard for set-it-and-forget-it VPN providers.

Without doubt one of best VPNs we tested in 2024, in our ExpressVPN Review we found its iOS app particularly simple. A built-in auto-connect feature ensures you’re always connected to a secure server, allowing you to surf (what us older folks called browsing) the Internet knowing your data is protected. Because a VPN encrypts your data before it leaves your device, neither your Internet Service Provider nor curious third parties can read or understand it.

Why is ExpressVPN the best VPN for iPhone?

When looking for a quality iPhone VPN – and a good VPN regardless of platform – privacy and security are key considerations. However, speed, ease of use and support are just as important.

Below, I’ll explain how ExpressVPN’s iPhone app excels in all of these areas.

1. It’s super easy to use

ExpressVPN’s iOS app best demonstrates the provider’s focus on ease of use. You’ve got everything you need to get up and running in just seconds, and the huge on/off button that greets you immediately after opening the app is just what the doctor ordered.

However, don’t make the mistake of thinking that the simplicity of the interface translates into a lack of other features. On the contrary, expert-level technical parameters are abundantly present; they are just hidden for convenience.

If you are an average user, you won’t need it. A quick set-it-and-forget-it action will allow you to navigate effortlessly knowing you’re backed by proven privacy features.

Open the app, press the big on-off button, and if you don’t have a particular preference for which server you want to connect to, you’re good to go. If you prefer to choose your own server, you’re just one click away from a drop-down list containing 160 server locations in 105 countries.

2. Its confidentiality is unmatched

One of the many (if not the most important) reasons why ExpressVPN remains our choice of VPN app for iPhone has to do with privacy and security. I could go on forever about how and why Express remains the best when it comes to privacy, but instead I’ll go over some of its most impressive features in this regard.

First of all, it comes with industry-standard AES-256 encryption, coupled with a 4,096-bit RSA SHA-512 certificate. In addition to being one of the most advanced encryption methods currently available, there is also a kill switch designed to cut off your connection if your VPN goes down.

While these essentials provide a robust enough level of protection for most threats, staying safe and anonymous online is a particularly daunting challenge. ExpressVPN’s Threat Manager is a particularly nice addition, keeping malware and trackers at bay. But it’s even better.

I’ve already mentioned the handy Smart AutoConnect feature, which ensures you’re always connected to a secure server. However, the supplier recently completed a 18th audit of its no-logs policydemonstrating a commitment to user privacy that few (if any!) other providers can match.

When you add obfuscated servers and other features in the mix, it’s clear why Express is one of the the most secure VPNs and the best choice for iPhone.

3. He has excellent speeds

Right off the bat, I will say that ExpressVPN is not the Fastest VPN I tested. However, it still managed to provide an incredibly fast service, with low latency throughout. This result is in line with the vendor’s focus on ease of use and being a great all-rounder, which it certainly is.

We achieved download speeds of 898 Mbps while testing ExpressVPN’s proprietary Lightway protocol on our closest server. 898 Mbps may not be up to par Surfshark 950+ Mbps, but this is especially impressive since we used TCP in our testing (the traditionally slower protocol compared to UDP). Given TCP’s increased compatibility, this result means ExpressVPN can maintain its stunning performance across more networks (which is always a plus).

The downside is that testing was slower than NordVPN and Surfshark (ExpressVPN only achieved 396 Mbps when connecting to the US from the UK). OpenVPN’s results were similarly weak, reaching a maximum of 160 Mbps throughout testing.

Bottom line: Even though ExpressVPN isn’t as fast as other major VPN providers, it’s still fast enough to easily stream 4K content, which is all that really matters. When it comes to iPhone VPNs, Express is still more than fast enough to meet the needs of average users.

4. It has excellent 24/7 support

Customer support is one of the few reasons I think ExpressVPN justifies its substantial cost.

Starting with 24/7 live chat, which is still faster to use from your iPhone than having to boot up another device, you’ll typically wait between 5 and 10 minutes to hear back from an agent.

If you send an email, the ExpressVPN staff usually responds with a complete response well before 12 hours, which is about how long I’ve sometimes had to wait to hear back from other providers. I would also say that it would have been great to also have a direct phone line for inquiries, but that is not the case at the time of writing – but in truth, very few VPNs offer this . Live chat isn’t a bad replacement, as the agents are polite, prompt, and most importantly, eager to help.

Additionally, the range of articles in the Help Center knowledge base is superb, with tons of in-depth tutorials and guides. Overall, I would rate ExpressVPN’s customer support a 9 out of 10.

Should I use ExpressVPN?

With its intuitive app design, superb connection times, and industry-leading privacy, ExpressVPN is currently the best VPN for iPhone. Compared to competitors like NordVPN for example, it is true that Express does not quite have all the advantages.

However, if your primary device for browsing the internet is an iPhone, ExpressVPN is absolutely the best choice.
