Trucker had his truck impounded after police determined he was impaired

A motorist called police about an errant truck driver.

After noticing a commercial vehicle driving strangely in the area of King Street and Dixie Road, a driver called the Caledon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

When police located the truck, they determined the driver had been drinking.

A 49-year-old Brampton man has been charged with impaired driving, failing to stop for police and operating a commercial vehicle in contravention of conditions.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on November 14 to answer to the charges. His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and the truck was impounded for seven days.

Police reiterate that under Ontario’s zero tolerance law for young, novice and commercial drivers, a driver cannot have alcohol in their system if they:

  • 21 years or younger
  • a driver of any age holding a G1, G2, M1 or M2 license
  • drive a vehicle that requires an AF driver’s license or commercial vehicle driver registration (CVOR)
  • drive a road construction machine
