Drinking water advisory issued for Thurston County water system after sample showed elevated nitrate levels

THURSTON COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) – A water warning was issued for some people in Thurston County, Nebraska, Thursday evening.

A sample taken last week found nitrate levels above the maximum containment level in the Pender Village water system.

A notice has also been issued to customers of the Thurston Rural Water System. This advisory states that adults and children over 6 months can drink tap water. However, a spokesperson for Papio Missouri River Natural Resources says no one should drink the tap water until further notice. The spokesperson also warned that boiling water would not remove nitrates.

Those who need water can get it at the Pender Village office at 614 Main Street.
