Acting as a gateway to more than 450 world-class providers and employees, the Bellin Surgery and Specialty Center brings together consultation and streamlined care in one place for community members. Bellin knew that empowering providers would be essential to providing extraordinary patient care. To design a space that encourages collaboration, guarantees visual and acoustic privacy and integrates functionality, Bellin worked with the furniture integrator Duo Resource Groupwhich suggests KI wall.

Design for connection

In recent years, Bellin has faced the challenge of finding a balance between openness and confidentiality in his clinics. Multiple small specialty clinics limited collaboration among providers and limited opportunities for cross-specialty information and innovation among medical staff.

To meet this challenge, Bellin has adopted a global philosophy aimed at bringing together a wide range of specialties under one roof.

Macdonald found that KI Wall solutions encouraged exploration among medical staff and significantly improved interdisciplinary collaboration. KI Wall solutions enabled the design of the new clinic layout, strategically positioning providers around care team pods and procedure rooms for easy access.

“Providers really like the fact that there are several different specialties, and that they’re not just working within their one brand or service line,” Macdonald said. “It allows them to have different perspectives.”

Care teams benefit from designated workspaces that promote smooth interaction, order placement and communication, while maintaining a calmer atmosphere for staff.

Maintain confidentiality

Visual and acoustic privacy is essential in a healthcare environment as providers conduct confidential conversations, consult with patients, make referrals, request laboratory images, and coordinate surgical procedures.

Macdonald explained: “The way some clinics are designed requires patients to walk right past the staff area. This poses privacy concerns because someone could accidentally overhear sensitive information. It doesn’t feel very private, so we have specific areas where our staff and patient flow is ideal.

The orthopedic clinic used Lightline Architectural Walls to create alcoves that effectively balance privacy and collaboration. A film applied to the glass provides visual privacy while allowing natural light to enter the workspace, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. Semi-private alcoves provide a feeling of seclusion without isolating individuals from the collaborative atmosphere.

“The offices are not traditional,” Macdonald explained. “The KI Wall team helped us design a solution tailored to our unique needs. This area feels open, yet provides privacy. From a design, structure, and efficiency standpoint, these workstations perform very well.

Functionality meets aesthetic appeal

Genius architectural walls provided inherent functionality without sacrificing aesthetic appeal. Service providers appreciate magnetic panel shells, which allow them to easily hang objects.

“You can’t imagine the creative things they did with these magnetic walls,” she said. “They did a great job for our team.”

Another advantage Bellin took advantage of by specifying Genius Walls was technological integration. Genius walls are meticulously manufactured to include wiring and conduit where power is specified. Pre-assembled panels install quickly and seamlessly connect essential technologies such as light switches, thermostats and room programmers.

The understated functional beauty of Genius magnetic shells combined with the modern minimalism of Lightline glass display cases create a beautiful atmosphere for patients and staff. Macdonald pointed out that the appeal of this space can also make it easier to recruit providers.

“The architectural walls are modern and sophisticated, enhancing the overall appearance of our facility, which is important if you are bringing on a new provider fresh from a tertiary care facility in a beautiful big city,” he said. she declared.

By prioritizing collaboration, privacy, functionality and technology integration, KI Wall has helped Bellin meet the needs of its providers, ensuring a superior healthcare experience for its patients.

Providers enjoy collaborating with each other, while staff and patients enjoy the beauty and welcoming atmosphere of the facility.

“So far we’ve had really good feedback,” Macdonald said. “Everyone loves the facility.”
