Sheet metal worker dies after fall on hospital construction site

ST. LOUIS (KMOV/Gray News) – A sheet metal worker has died after a fall on a construction site at a St. Louis hospital.

The fall happened Friday at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said the man was working from a ladder when he fell 12 feet to a concrete floor and hit his head. He died two days later.

The man worked for IWRa St. Louis-based entrepreneur.

The construction company working on the project is McCarthywho sent the following statement:

“We share our deep sadness following the death of a sheet metal worker employed by IWR North America, who died Sunday morning from injuries sustained in an accident on Friday, October 25 at a McCarthy construction site in St. Louis.

Our deepest condolences go out to all the family, friends, team members and fellow staff. We provide support to the family, project team and staff, as well as our partners.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the individual was injured during the installation of a metal insulated panel. Emergency services were contacted immediately and the individual was transported to the emergency room of a local hospital. Out of respect for the privacy of the person’s family, we will not share further details at this time.

Safety is our number one priority on every McCarthy project, and we are steadfast in our commitment to creating and supporting a safe workplace for everyone who works on or visits our job sites. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and all relevant authorities.

OSHA is continuing its investigation.
