Trent Busuttin has repeated two aspects of the successful formula that won him the 2011 Victoria Derby with Sangster as he strives for another victory in the race with Keeneland at Flemington on Saturday.

Busuttin and training partner Natalie Young enlisted the services of now Hong Kong-based hoopster Hugh Bowman – who not only won the Derby on Sangster but also had success on Lion Tamer (2010) and Polanski (2013) – while that Keeneland will be sixth. -up Saturday, as Sangster was in 2011 and Tavago was winning the 2012 ATC Derby.

Unsuitable in his final race at the slow pace of the Caulfield Classic, Keeneland still finished third, having won an earlier start in the Super Impose Stakes (1800m) and he will aim to emulate other recent Super Impose double winners /Victoria Derby. , Polanski (2013), Extra Brut (2018) and Attention (2019).

“It’s a real chance each way. He didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t like the cutting up of the field at Caulfield or the slow pace. 2,500m at Flemington with a full field will be a different race and he’s going to be there at the finish,” Busuttin said.

Busuttin and Young have been around the mark in other Victoria Derbies over the past decade, having finished second with Sully (2017), third with Sunsets last year and fourth with Muramasa in 2022.
