Seravalli: “For the moment, Rasmus Andersson is not going anywhere”

Fortunately, Rasmus Andersson isn’t going anywhere.

The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli joined Sportsnet 650 on Wednesday morning and was asked what he knew about the situation with Andersson and the Calgary Flames. Seravalli’s response was blunt, saying he wasn’t going anywhere.

Seravalii also said the team is happy with the players they have because they want to play for the Flames, which has been an issue during the 2023-24 season, according to some.

Of course, many teams are interested in Andersson. For example, the Vancouver Canucks would like a defenseman who can move the puck, which Andersson does perfectly. The cost of the Flames right-handed defenseman would be steep to say the least, but there is a working relationship between the Canucks and Flames, as the two teams linked up for two trades last season.

The other Canadian team in the Pacific Division could also use him, as the Edmonton Oilers are clearly missing a top-4 defenseman on the right side. Sure, they could have gotten Philip Broberg, but they’ll have to trade for a defenseman at the trade deadline instead.

In addition, the Utah Hockey Club rear end was affected, particularly on the right side of its defense. Both Sean Durzi and John Morino will be out month to month, leading to Maveric Lamoureux being called up and being traded for Olli Määttä.

The cost to Andersson would be immense. The 28-year-old is off to a fantastic start, leading the Flames with 10 points, as well as leading the team in goals with four. Even though the Flames are on a three-game losing streak, they are off to a 5-3-1 start. Additionally, Andersson has a great contract, earning $4.55 million per year through the end of the 2025-26 season.

Things could change in the future, especially if the Flames continue to struggle. But it seems that at least for now and perhaps for the indefinite future, Rasmus Andersson will remain a flame.
