Peel Regional Police say one person has been charged following a botched, broad daylight home invasion in Brampton, where thieves went after a safe full of cash.

Police have charged one man and are still searching for other suspects following a botched, broad daylight home invasion in Brampton, where thieves went after a safe full of cash.

The break-in happened around 2 p.m. Tuesday, when Peel Regional Police say suspects forced their way into a home in the area of ​​Goreway Drive and Cottrelle Boulevard in Brampton.

Multiple witnesses filmed the aftermath with videos posted to social media showing the suspects struggling to flee with the safe, ultimately abandoning it in the backyard of a home.

Peel police can be seen arriving on scene as the suspects attempt to flee in a dark-colored pickup truck. The officers used their patrol car to ram the front of the truck and block the driver while a Peel police officer jumped out and shouted commands at the two suspects.

One suspect attempted to flee the officer on foot and was eventually caught by the officers while another suspect fled in the truck.

During the incident, one of the officers can be seen pointing what appears to be either a firearm or a conducted energy weapon (commonly referred to as a Taser) at the suspect.

Police confirmed to INsauga.com that the safe was found at the scene, but “it is not yet known how much money was in it.” Unconfirmed social media posts claimed there was more than $1 million in the safe – a figure police could not verify.

Investigators say the suspect who fled on foot was taken into police custody and now confirm a 44-year-old man has been charged with one count of break and enter with intent to commit an act criminal. The identity of the accused has not yet been released.

Police say they still don’t have a description of the second suspect and say there could be more than one accomplice involved.

No injuries were reported during the break-in and police say the investigation is ongoing. Police did not say whether any charges had been filed.
