Launch of an electric vehicle battery health assessment service by BCA

BCA launches a new electric vehicle (EV) battery health assessment service, a first for the remarketing industry.

BCA announces record levels of used electric vehicle sales in 2024 and is on track to sell more than 40,000 units over the next 12 months, in a market that continues to grow.

BCA’s Battery Health Assessment provides an overview of the condition of an electric vehicle’s traction battery.

Each vehicle receives an AE rating along with the numbered score from an Aviloo Battery Flash Test, an analysis tool for determining battery health and detecting battery faults for used electric vehicles .

The manufacturer-independent test is performed by connecting the Aviloo test box to each vehicle’s on-board diagnostic (OBD) interface.

According to BCA, this provides a test report showing the remaining capacity of the traction battery as a score between 0 and 100 and displaying “red flags” in the event of faulty battery modules.

The BCA battery health rating is displayed in a quick reference format on the vehicle details page, vehicle search results, and live auction screens.

Buyers can now determine the health of an electric vehicle’s traction battery, enabling quick and informed decisions at auction, BCA said.

BCA buyers have access to the full Flash Test report after the sale, which can be used in the retail process, helping sellers build greater trust and transparency with their own customers and accelerate the sales process.

Stuart Pearson, chief operating officer at BCA, said: “Electric vehicle volumes in our online auctions are increasing significantly year on year and we continue to refine the remarketing process to support this sector.

“Through our continued investments in infrastructure and support services, our customers remain best placed when it comes to selling or buying used electric vehicles. »

Marcus Berger, CEO of testing provider Aviloo, added: “The Aviloo Battery Health Test covers 95% of all available electric vehicle brands, meaning it integrates seamlessly with broad remarketing programs online from BCA in the UK and Europe.

“Fostering increased trust and a transparent process remains key to the continued development of the used electric vehicle landscape, and we are very pleased to partner with BCA on this initiative.

Pearson continued: “The new BCA Battery Health Assessment helps our buying customers bid on electric vehicles with confidence and make more informed purchasing decisions.

“The service offers absolute transparency with unbiased testing and evaluation, providing a reusable report that will further facilitate the retail process.

“For our sellers, the report will provide the opportunity to resolve any issues prior to sale, as well as optimize residual values by removing any uncertainty discounting.”

He concluded: “BCA’s most successful electric vehicle buyers understand the market well and use their product knowledge to dispel myths surrounding electric vehicles, providing their customers with increased confidence.

“This new initiative will provide valuable additional support to our customers as the used electric vehicle market continues to grow and will help everyone in the subsequent sales process when these vehicles are retailed.”
