PNM and PIP equip women farmers with financial and agricultural skills – Front Row

With the aim of improving economic resilience and human resources in the agricultural sector, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) in Padang, West Sumatra, in partnership with the Government Investment Center (PIP), organized a large-scale business capacity development (PKU) event. . The event took place on October 26 at the Emir Hotel Lubuk Sikaping, bringing together 300 Mekaar program clients. Under the theme “Inclusive Financial Access, Productive Community”, the event aimed to deepen women farmers’ understanding of financial management and agricultural knowledge.

Recognizing the central role of agriculture in supporting local economies, particularly in Lubuk Sikaping, a major rice and peanut producing region, PNM and PIP provided comprehensive training to improve the financial knowledge and agricultural skills of PNM Mekaar customers engaged in agriculture. Sunar Basuki, PNM Operations Director, highlighted that this empowerment initiative goes beyond increasing farmers’ income; it also aims to strengthen their position in the broader economic chain.

“Women farmers need more than just agricultural skills. With a strong grasp of financial knowledge, they can effectively manage their income, plan their future investments and avoid the risks of excessive debt,” explained Sunar. He also highlighted the importance of continually improving agricultural expertise to ensure that agricultural practices are not only efficient, but also sustainable.

The event brought together several agricultural experts who shared their knowledge and experience, presented real-world case studies and offered practical tips that participants could apply directly. Support has expanded beyond skills training to include access to digital technology, helping farmers market their products to a wider audience.

“PNM provides three essential forms of capital to its clients: financial, intellectual and social. Through PKU Akbar, we aim to strengthen the intellectual capital of our clients by teaching them to run their businesses in a more professional and digital manner,” added Sunar. With a strong digital literacy, farmers can access a wider market base, which can potentially increase their income.

Through initiatives such as PKU Akbar, PNM hopes to empower women farmers to become more empowered and effective as agents of change in their communities. The PNM and PIP are optimistic that this cross-sector collaboration will generate inclusive and sustainable economic growth for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in West Sumatra.
