Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavidwho left Monday’s game after his first appearance, injured his ankle during the game and will be out two to three weeks, the team announced Wednesday.

McDavid suffered an uncalled penalty in the first period as he entered the game. Columbus Blue Jackets‘ area in a Defeat 6-1 and slipped into the boards. McDavid stood up and skated slowly to the Oilers bench, lifting his left leg.

Coach Kris Knoblauch said after the game that McDavid was returning to Edmonton to be further evaluated.

The Oilers will play five to eight games during McDavid’s absence.

McDavid is a three-time league MVP and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after the Oilers lost to the Florida Panthers In Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

He has 10 points in 10 games this season. The Oilers, who had rebounded to .500 after a slow start, fell to 4-5-1 with Monday’s loss.

The team recalled forwards Noah Philp and Drake Caggiula after McDavid’s injury.

Injuries during the Colorado Avalanche

Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Ross Colton (broken foot) will be out six to eight weeks. He played on the first line and scored eight goals.

Forward Miles Wood (upper body) will be out seven to ten days.
