CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Just days before authorities pulled two Jeeps from the Cuyahoga River, a private dive team came across the cars while searching for a missing person.

Chaos Diver, a group that helps find missing people, was searching the Cuyahoga River for Calvin Jones.

During their search on October 20, they found 2 Jeeps near the I-490 bridge.

“Just imagine the two Jeeps lined up perfectly,” said owner Jacob Grubbs. “This one, the tailgate was buried in the ground. This one, the tailgate was resting on the surface.

Grubbs told 19 News he was able to remove one of the license plates from a Jeep.

His team examined the plaque to see who it belonged to and why it was there.

“From what we know, the jeep was not necessarily related to anything other than a potential theft,” Director Lindsey Bussick said.

Grubbs says they told Cleveland police about their discovery.

According to Grubbs, police said they were familiar with the Jeeps and planned to pull them out of the water during a training exercise scheduled for October 29.

This is exactly what happened Tuesday.

“ODNR followed up with us and said, ‘Hey, we got them out.’ At this point, everything has been taken for treatment,” Bussick said.

The team also found two other vehicles during their search in Cleveland.

They told the police, but were not aware of any plans to deport them.

“In the past, this area was used as a dump,” Bussick said. “So they didn’t know if this was sort of a new beginning.”

19 News has not learned if these Jeeps are related to any open cases for Cleveland Police.

The Chaos Divers team is in Illinois, before heading to their next search.

They told 19 News they plan to return to Cleveland soon to continue their search for Calvin Jones.
