TCU Women’s Golf placed fourth at Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate

The TCU women’s golf team finished its outstanding fall season with another impressive performance, earning a solo fourth-place finish at the inaugural Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate at Ridglea Country Club. Competing against a strong field of seven top-40 ranked teams, TCU stayed in contention until the very end, demonstrating its resilience and competitive spirit in a remarkable finale.

The Horned Frogs began the morning in sixth place and used the afternoon to shoot an even-par back nine to overtake No. 21 Oklahoma State and No. 33 Kentucky. The Frogs finished the tournament just two shots behind SMU, which finished third. However, he was seeded number 15. Wake Forest won the five-way tournament out of 857.

This tournament result puts TCU in a strong position to potentially enter the Top 20 in the final Team of the Year rankings. The Frogs were remarkably consistent, finishing at least sixth in each of their five fall events. Their impressive performance against high-caliber competition strengthened their position, marking their fourth consecutive top-four finish. That streak includes two team victories at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational and the Jim West Challenge.

TCU had a strong finish to the tournament down the stretch, which resulted in five Horned Frogs placing in the Top 20. All five players in the Horned Frogs starting lineup birdied hole 18 to maintain a three-shot lead over Oklahoma State.

Freshman Gracie McGovern led the Horned Frogs with an impressive performance in individual competition. McGovern moved up eight spots on the final day with a two-under round, securing a tie for 10th place at +1. The feat marked his collegiate personal best of 54 and gave him the first top 10 of his career.

Senior Megan Winans also had another good tournament. She finished tied for 13th in the four-way. The senior finished among TCU’s best players for the second time in 2024-25 and notched her third top 15 finish of the season.

Three horned frogs have attached themselves; Kirstin Angosta, Camille Min-GaultierAnd Sofia Barroso Sá all shot tied par 71 in the final round and finished tied for 17th at +5. Kirstin Angosta, TCU’s low tournament leader for the season, managed to stay bogey-free on her last nine, helping her climb the rankings. Rookie Camille Min-Gaultier now has three consecutive Top 20 finishes and finishes at least 23rd place. Sofia Barroso Sá made numerous birdies during the three rounds. She made 11 birdies over her two days, including three over her last five holes. Sophie Dimitrova finished tied for 33rd place, shooting 11 over. Charlotte Cattanéo also managed to move up four places to reach 55th place solo. She also participated in this tournament as an individual golfer.

It was a great tournament overall for the Horned Frogs, especially with the conditions mother nature gave them. The wind made the task difficult during the three races. The Lady Horned Frogs will now have a break for the remainder of the fall semester. They will return to action January 31-February 1, 2025, at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club in Mexico.
