Alkantara Festival 2024 – Damn young!

THE Alkantara Festival 2024 brings together a diverse range of artists from around the world to explore themes of life, death and human connection. From November 15 to December 1, Lisbon will be filled with dance, theater and performances.

The festival kicks off with a powerful statement: Carolina Bianchi’s “A Noiva eo Boa Noite Cinderela” confronts the dark reality of sexual violence and femicide. Other highlights included “Wayqeycuna” by Tiziano Cruz, a tribute to the dead and those who face adversity, and “Nigamon/Tunai” by Émilie Monnet and Waira Nina, a celebration of indigenous cultures and environmental concerns.

For a more experimental experience, check out “MIKE” by Dana Michel, a humorous and absurd look at professional life, or “The Secret Lives of Old Men” by Mohamed El Khatib, a nostalgic and funny exploration of aging.

The festival also addresses social and political issues. Alia Hamdan’s “The Body is Here, Off Screen” explores the impact of the Beirut port explosion, while Zaraa’s “Dear Laila” examines themes of exile and belonging.

Beyond performances, Alkantara Festival 2024 offers workshops, screenings and discussions. It’s an opportunity to connect with artists and other audience members and dive deeper into the festival’s themes.
