The skin is in.

Chronic Pain Specialist Based in Maryland Dr Kunal Sood has taken to TikTok to reveal the nutrient-rich fruits we’ve been eating wrong.

The fruit in question is the one most people peel: a kiwi.

“By consuming the skin, you increase the fiber content by almost 50%, which aids digestion and reduces bloating.”

Most Americans don’t get enough fiber. Women are encouraged to consume 25 grams of fiber per day, while men should aim for 38 grams.

The research proposed that a high intake of dietary fiber may reduce the risk of several types of cancer, including esophageal, stomach, colon, and rectal cancer.

Fiber is said to “feed” healthy gut bacteriawhich experts suggest may reduce the risk of cancer.

Sood continued: “The skin of the kiwi also contains three times more antioxidants than the fruit, helping to fight free radicals and reduce inflammation.”

Free radicals, reactive chemicals that damage our cells, are it is thought to contribute to the development of cancer. Antioxidants protect the body from the harmful effects of free radicals by strengthening cellular function and reducing oxidative stress.

Experts suggest get your antioxidant intake from food sources rather than supplements.

Sood explained that kiwi peel is “rich in vitamins C and E, supporting your immune system and improving the health of your skin.”

In addition to fight against scurvy and boosting immunity, vitamin C is a boon for mental health. Last year, New Zealand scientists discovered that eat kiwi rich in vitamin C can improve mood in as little as four days.

THE recommended daily intake of vitamin C for adults, 90 milligrams for men and 75 milligrams for women. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, smokers, some cancer patients, and those taking certain medications may need more.

The good doctor notes that those with a history of kidney stones should avoid eating kiwi peel due to its relatively high oxalate content.

Viewers, however, aren’t entirely convinced they want to eat the skin, insisting the hairs make it a “sensory nightmare”.

“The fur makes me itchy and sore,” one commenter complained.

“But it’s so bitter.” I really tried,” another complained.

If the idea of eating the textured exterior of the rough-skinned fruit appeals to you, Soon recommends opting for the smoother-skinned golden kiwi variety.

Another healthy choice? Blend the whole fruit into a smoothie.
