Gotta see it: McIlrath knocks out Rempe in fight to open Capitals-Rangers

WASHINGTON — Dylan McIlrath said earlier today that he won’t change his mindset or game when it comes to Matt Rempe for Tuesday’s game between the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers. Yet they dropped the gloves almost immediately.

McIlrath and Rempe got physically involved behind the play in the opening minutes of the first half, then dropped the gloves for a heavyweight fight.

The fight lasted quite a while as McIlrath punched Rempe’s helmet, drawing blood as his visor cut his face. Then, to close it out, McIlrath struck out the Rangers’ young enforcer to kick off Capital One Arena.

This wasn’t the first time these two have gone at it in their careers, as they both battled it out in 2022 at the NHL level.
