Harris broke it, Trump has a new team to fix it

Vice President Harris broke it and President Trump has a new team to fix it.

Are you better off than you were four years ago? This is how Trump began his speech at the remarkable event held on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Consider it a key final argument.

“I would like to start by asking a very simple question: are you in a better situation today than you were four years ago? he asked.

“This will be America’s new golden age. It’s also going to happen quickly, very quickly,” Trump added. “Problem after problem, Kamala broke it, but I’m going to fix it. We will fix it.

So I have three numbers from today’s Wall Street Journal op-ed by Senators Cruz of Texas and Scott of Florida on the Biden-Harris affordability crisis – on wages, cars and houses.

First, consumer prices in U.S. cities have risen 26% faster than private sector wages.

Second, as of January 2021, a family paid an average of $11,579 to own a new car and cover associated costs for the year. Today, that same car and associated costs total $15,337. This represents a price increase of 32 percent.

The third number is the cost of owning and living a home: $19,119 per year at the start of 2021, has now increased to $36,736. This represents an increase of 92 percent.

And let me introduce you to a fourth issue of Senators. The annual cost of owning a new car and home is now 70% higher than it was four years ago.

So when Trump asks “are you better off than you were four years ago” – the answer is a resounding no.

These are simple kitchen costs. Nothing extraordinary. The stuff middle-class dreams are made of.

Which is the American dream for low-income people trying to climb the corporate ladder, young people just starting out, or certainly middle-income blue-collar workers in hard hats just trying to live a good life.

Hats off to the senators. It’s a good piece.

And, to that same kitchen table, I want to add the proposition that Ms. Harris broke it and Trump will fix it.

Here’s another final argument from Trump, and a good one: He really has a whole new group of people to make sure that he will actually implement his promises and solve the problems.

I’ll just read some names: Senator Vance, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, Byron Donalds, Hulk Hogan and Dana White.

There are plenty of other people – new and old allies – who are helping Trump. But this is an important representative group.

From the Madison Square Group extravaganza, quote one of Mr. Ramaswamy’s many great lines: “If you want to seal the border, vote Trump.” If you want to restore law and order in this country, vote Trump. If you want to grow this country’s economy, vote Trump. If you want to revive national pride in this country, vote Trump.”

Mr. Ramaswamy added: “Donald Trump is actually the president who will unite this country. And we don’t talk about it enough.

It doesn’t get much better, clearer or brighter than this.

I had to add Mr. White to the list because his UFC attracts so many young voters to Trump.

And I added Mr. Hogan to the list. No, I don’t see Hulk running the Treasury Department. He earned his place, however, by rightly pointing out that there were “no stinking Nazis” at the Garden on Sunday. And he’s pretty cool.

And Trump too – pretty cool – with his new team and his strong closing arguments. And his speech at the Al Smith dinner. And his rally in the South Bronx. And his hair salon visits him. And its extra salt on McDonald’s fries. And yes, his speech at Madison Square Garden, which was seen by tens of millions of people.

And Trump is cool for another reason: the people around him are all very intelligent.

They’re not exactly Abe Lincoln’s “rival team.” But the group, like many others, shows that Trump has the confidence and good judgment to recruit the best people to his team.

And that’s why he can say, with growing confidence: Ms. Harris broke it, Trump will fix it.
