Cricket Australia extends Andrew McDonald as coach until 2027

Australian men’s cricket coach Andrew McDonald has had his contract extended until the end of 2027, following his success in the red and white ball match.

McDonald, who took over the team in 2022, guided Australia to become the number one ranked Test team in the world, while also being ranked second in one-day and T20s.

Since McDonald became coach, Australia have won their first World Test championship, won the 50-over World Cup in India and retained the Ashes last year in England.

“I am very fortunate to have an exceptional group of leaders, players, coaches and staff who are fully invested in the continued well-being, success and development of this group,” McDonald said.

“The professionalism, commitment and experience of my fellow coaches and all staff has ensured that this journey has been extremely successful, but has equally created a culture of unity, trust and inclusion.

“International cricket presents many challenges for all teams and I am particularly proud of the way the squad, players and staff, across all formats, have overcome these challenges together.”

McDonald faces one of the toughest missions of his tenure, trying to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

The five-Test series begins on November 22 in Perth, with India achieving famous series victories in the previous two tours of Australia.

Australia have not won a Border-Gavaskar series since the summer of 2014-15, when they beat India 2-0 in a four-Test series.
