Hollywood remembers Teri Garr as a comedy legend

David Letterman calls Teri GarrWHO died on Tuesdayone of his “all-time favorite guests”, while Garr’s Mr. Mom Michael Keaton, his co-star, laments “a day I feared and knew was coming.”

The late Teri Garr, who brightened up everything from sitcoms (Batman, this girl, friends), variety shows (Shindig!, Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour), talk shows (she’s done them all, but her classic appearances with Letterman can’t be beat), some of the funniest movies ever made (Young Frankenstein, Tootsie) and even occasional drama (Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Conversation) is today remembered by her co-stars and colleagues for the light she was.

Michael Keaton, Garr’s Mr. Mom co-star, wrote on Instagram: “It was a day I feared and knew was coming. Forget how great she was as an actress and comedian. she was a wonderful woman. not only is he great to work with, but he’s also great to be around. AND go back and check out her comedic work – Man, was she awesome!! RIP girl.

In a brief Instagram post, Letterman wrote, “Remembering one of our favorite guests of all time,” alongside a clip of the talk show host introducing Garr while giving him a standing ovation.

“Oh man, this is devastating,” tweeted Paul Feig, who directed Garr in Unaccompanied minors. “Teri was a legend. So funny, so beautiful, so kind. I had the honor of working with her in 2006 and she was everything I dreamed of. Truly one of my comedy heroes. I couldn’t have loved him more. It’s such a loss.

Michael McKean, who played with Garr in 1999 Kill the manwrote: “I will always love Teri Garr.”

Producer Gale Ann Hurd wrote: “A truly fantastic actor and person…we worked together briefly on Tail and I will never forget it. Valiant as she faced the ravages of MS, never complaining, terrified of losing her SAG health insurance. We live in a country where #TerriGarr must have cared.

The deadline will add tributes upon their arrival…
