Harris to deliver closing speech at Ellipse, offering ‘a different path’ than Trump

Washington — Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver her closing argument against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening at the same location where he encouraged his supporters to “fight like hell” on Jan. 6, 2021, before he fought. marched to the US Capitol and unsuccessfully attempted to prevent the certification of President Biden’s victory.

“America, we know what Donald Trump has in mind. More chaos. More division. And policies that help those at the top and hurt everyone else. I propose a different path. And I ask for your vote,” she will say.

She will also pledge to improve the lives of Americans through “common-sense solutions” and “seeking common ground.”

“I am committed to listening to experts, those who will be affected by the decisions I make, and those who disagree with me. Unlike Donald Trump, I do not believe that people who disagree agree with me the enemy. He wants to put them in prison. I will give them a place at my table,” she said.

Previewing the speech, Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said the Ellipse was chosen because “it’s a place that we believe helps crystallize the choice in this election”.

“We know a lot of these undecided voters, they are exhausted,” she said. “They are certainly frustrated with the state of partisanship and the divided political system that has really been defined under Donald Trump.”

On Monday, Harris told reporters that Trump’s rally at New York’s Madison Square Garden the day before underscored her case against him. Speakers at Trump event returned offensive, rude and racist remarks on minorities and Harris.

“That’s why people who once supported Donald Trumpvoted for him, support me, vote for me,” she said. “He stokes the fuel of hatred and division, and that’s why people are exhausted with him.”

On Tuesday, while getting ice cream in Baltimore, Maryland, Mr. Biden told reporters that he would watch Harris’ speech. Explaining why he wouldn’t be there in person, he said: “because it’s for her, it’s her night.”
