Surrey RCMP say a driver who struck a pedestrian Monday evening is believed to be impaired by alcohol.

The pedestrian was struck by an Audi Q3 SUV around 9:30 p.m. near 188th Street and 60th Avenue, according to police.

The victim, a man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing bodily harm and was given a 24-hour driving ban,” Surrey RCMP wrote in a news release Tuesday. “The driver was subsequently released without charge pending further investigation and his vehicle was impounded.”

Police asked anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera video to call the detachment at 604-599-0502 and reference case number 2024-160816.
