Everything Magic Star Paolo Banchero Said About NBA Today After 50-Point Performance

Less than 24 hours removed from his monumental 50-point performance on a career night with the Orlando Magic, 21-year-old forward Paolo Banchero joined ESPN’s Malika Andrews for a special interview in the edition of Tuesday from “NBA Today.”

Banchero posted a stat line of 50 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and two blocks in a 119-115 victory over the Indiana Pacers to help his team improve to 3-1 on the year.

Here’s what he had to say Tuesday on NBA Today:

Q. What is it like to be in such an area?

PB: “Yeah, it takes a lot of energy, I will say that. But just being in that zone – honestly, I didn’t lose 50 in high school or college. So I really didn’t never been in an area like that “To see him on the biggest stage, it was the NBA and in front of the home fans (of the Magic), it was truly incredible. “

Q. How does it feel to hear the “MVP” chants at times like these?

PB: “It’s a dream come true. It’s like when you’re in 2K, you’re experiencing a great game… they start chanting ‘MVP’. I remember the first time (the fans) did it in my freshman year, I remember getting shivers down my spine because I had never experienced anything like that before Just having an entire arena chanting “MVP.” for you is a surreal feeling. something you always dream of as a kid, just playing basketball in the park or in the driveway. I’m so grateful to the fans for their support of me and the team.

Q. Did you recover the game ball? And what would you do with it if you did?

PB: “Yeah, yeah. I have the game ball. I have the shoes, the jersey, everything is locked in. I’m going to try to get a nice little design on the game ball with my stat line.. . and put it in place.” maybe at home. I have this one from my first triple-double last year, so I will definitely have this one.

Q. You were quick to say last night that it wasn’t just about you. As fans continue to learn about this team, I would like you to give us one word, if you can, to describe some of your teammates. I’m just going to report them. Are you ready?

PB: Yeah.”

Q. Jalen Suggs.

PB: “Dog”.

Q. Anthony Black.

PB: “Two words. I would say ‘rising star’.”

Q. Franz Wagner.

PB: “Compliant”.

Q. And if you had to describe this Magic team as a whole, what would your word be?

PB: “Relentless”.

Q. Your family is a vital part of the Seattle sports community… your mother played in the WNBA, your father played at Washington, your sister is an accomplished soccer player, your brother is a high school quarterback who plays on the field. D1 Offers. Who is the best athlete in the Banchero family?

PB: “That’s me. That’s me. I love my family; all my brothers and sisters are doing great things. My mother is a member of the University of Washington Hall of Fame. But that’s me .”
