UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has taken a step toward resolving his legal issues.

By Nolan King From MMA Junkie, a New Mexico judge ruled that Jones’ misdemeanor assault charge would be dismissed if he completed four hours of anger management and obeyed the law for 90 days as part of his bail deal. advocacy.

With the decision made, Jones took to social media to express his gratitude that the situation will be resolved in time for his highly anticipated return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 309 on the 16th. November, when he will defend his title against former champion Stipe. Miocic:

BONE @JonnyBones

I would like to express my thanks to the justice system for reaching a speedy resolution in this matter, which affirms my innocence and allows me to remain focused on the fight ahead. I look forward to the opportunity to defend my heavyweight title on November 16…

Jones was facing a misdemeanor charge of interference with communication and a misdemeanor charge of assault stemming from a drug test at his New Mexico home where testers accused him of being hostile.

Jones had denied the allegations when they were first made public earlier this year.

“I recently had a visit from testers while I was celebrating a birthday and taking a nap,” he said. wrote in a post on social media. “When I woke up, I was caught off guard by the lack of professionalism and protocol from one of the testers, which caused frustration that led me to use profanity that I regret.

“However, I would like to emphasize that at no time did I threaten, confront anyone, raise my voice in front of anyone or commit any form of aggression. It is unfortunate that fake news has been broadcast without proper fact-checking I want to assure you that I will vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations. The truth is that the incident simply did not happen.

Jones has not fought since defeating Ciryl Gane to win the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285 in March 2023. He suffered a torn labrum in training and the UFC crowned an interim champion heavyweight, Tom Aspinall, in his absence.

If Jones is successful against Miocic, many wonder if he will retire or face Aspinall in a title unification fight.
