MELBOURNE, Australia –

A mother picking up a child crashed a car through a Melbourne school fence on Tuesday, fatally injuring one child and leaving four others seriously injured, police said.

The driver was arrested at the scene and remained in custody, police said. Neither she nor her student passenger were injured.

Police were questioning the mother, McEvoy said, but had no further news. Specialized accident investigation detectives were on hand to collect evidence.

The video shows that the station wagon, whose left front fender is visibly damaged, stopped after passing through a recreation area covered with shade cloth.
