Levi Davis’ mother ‘determined to fight for truth’ two years after disappearance in Spain | UK News

The mother of Levi Davis – the former Bath rugby player who disappeared two years ago – says she feels “abandoned” by the Spanish police and believes he was the “victim of a crime”.

The former winger, who was 24 when he disappeared, was last seen at the Old Irish Pub in Barcelona on October 29, 2022. Local detectives later closed the case, suggesting he probably drowned at sea.

But new allegations have emerged from journalists at Signing times about a blackmail plot against him.

His mother, Julie Davis, told the outlet: “We felt abandoned by the police and I believe Levi was the victim of a crime in the UK and Spain. So many things don’t add up. I I am determined to fight for the truth.

“They have done everything they can to find Jay Slater and seek and obtain justice for Madeleine McCann. They must do the same now for Levi.”

She added: “Until his body is found, I will not give up hope.”

Minister of Safeguarding Jess Phillips echoed calls for a “joint” police review of new evidence after the Byline Times’ 14-month investigation also alleged there were “serious failings” in the Spanish investigation into Mr. Davis.

After leaving Bath in 2020, Mr Davis spoke about his battle with depression and his sexuality – becoming the first professional rugby player to come out as bisexual while still playing.

He has also made a few appearances on television, notably on Celebrity X factor in 2019 alongside fellow rugby stars Ben Foden and Thom Evans in a group known as Try Star.

Davis had also signed a record deal, and in 2022 he went to a friend’s house in Ibiza to work on a few songs, but then told his adoptive mother Suzanne Balfour that he had to “get out”.

It was after a trip to Barcelona that he disappeared on October 29. There are few confirmed details about the circumstances.
