Johnson rejects rumors that ‘little secret’ with Trump is ‘evil’

House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday scoffed at rumors that his “little secret” with former President Donald Trump, which will allow Republicans to keep control of the House next week, was ” diabolical” and that it was actually linked to their efforts to improve voter turnout.

Trump teased that he had a “little secret” with Johnson during his Rally at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday. But the former president said he won’t reveal that secret to voters until after the 2024 election, but that it could have a “significant impact” on maintaining control of the House.

A Democratic legislator speculated that the “secret” was that Trump and Johnson would attempt to overturn the election results if Trump lost next week.

“He really calls this our secret,” Johnson said at a rally in Pennsylvania. “It’s not evil. It’s actually very good. This will help us with the participation rate. All this blows their mind. They just can’t – they can’t imagine that Trump and Vance have the support that they have across the country like they do from – from a new demographic.

The speaker said he expects Republicans to enjoy record support from Hispanic, black and Jewish voters.

Johnson told The Hill that speculation that it would be something more disastrous is “absolute nonsense.” The Speaker of the House of Representatives has pledged to certify the results of the 2024 elections, if they are “free and fair” elections.

“I have always been a constitutional law lawyer. We will respect the law. We are going to follow the constitution to the letter,” Johnson said. “I’ve proven it time and time again. So all this conjecture seems hilarious to us, that people are apoplectic about it. It’s a… it’s one of our strategies to get out of the vote. This is what we are talking about. And it’s almost ironic.

Johnson also highlighted “secrets” that Democrats appeared to have in the past, such as information regarding President Joe Biden’s health and the truth about the laptop of his first son, Hunter Biden.
