2024 Election Updates: Obama Slams Puerto Rican Comic’s Remarks at Trump Rally

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz delivered a targeted message aimed at rallying young voters in the crowd as he pitched for Vice President Kamala Harris in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Monday.

In an appearance near the University of Michigan campus a little more than a week before Election Day, Walz delivered a short, thoughtful speech reinforcing his running mate’s candidacy.

“Look, on her first day – from prosecutor to district attorney to attorney general of California to United States senator to vice president – Kamala Harris had only one client: the people,” Walz said.

He also sometimes called on his “coach” persona. “Now we’re going to move this thing over the next eight days, one inch at a time, one yard at a time, one door at a time, one phone call at a time,” Walz said. “(Because) one of these knocks on the door, and one of these interactions — because one or two more votes for a district in the state of Michigan will make Kamala Harris the president of the United States .

Walz acknowledged head-on the anxiety young, first-time voters might feel this election cycle.

“Here’s the good news: if you’re feeling any anxiety, any nervousness, any worry, we have the solution for you. Get out and vote for Kamala Harris. I know I did it last Wednesday with my son, who voted for the first time, and it worked,” he told a mostly student crowd.

It was Walz and Harris’ first joint rally since appearing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the Democratic National Convention in August.
