1 dead, 2 teens injured in shooting at Akron Halloween party

Akron police are investigating a shooting that left one teenager and two other teenagers dead Saturday night during what police believe was a Halloween party.

Around 10:46 p.m., police went to a home in the 100 block of Paris Avenue and located Lashae Ellis, who suffered a serious gunshot wound, police said.

Officers also located a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl who had also been shot. Both had non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the two men ran from the home after being shot.

All three teens were transported to a nearby hospital, where Ellis was later pronounced dead, police said. The other two are expected to recover from their injuries.

Police said that during a Halloween party, an unknown person pulled out a handgun and fired shots inside the home, hitting the victims.

“We’re told that, you know, a group of people entered the party very shortly after at least one of those people pulled out a gun and started shooting. It’s not clear if this victim (Ellis) was the “We believe she was not,” said Akron Police Capt. Michael Miller.

Miller said they believe the house may have been used as a short-term rental property. The shooting remains under investigation as police continue to search for partygoers who may have answers.

“We would ask, as we often do, the particular individuals who were present at the party to examine their hearts and decide if there is anything they are willing to share with us that might further this investigation ” Miller said.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man after a brief chase and recovered a handgun he had thrown while fleeing, police said. However, it is unclear what role he played in the shooting, if any. He was booked into the Summit County Jail and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.
