Kyle Shanahan says he won’t fire 49ers special teams coordinator

The 49ers special teams are bad at everything.

This can’t cover it. He can’t come back. He can’t even get the ball into the end zone on kickoffs. It’s a disaster.

And yet, head coach Kyle Shanahan says he won’t fire special teams coordinator Brian Schneider.

“We evaluate special teams every week,” Shanahan said Monday during a conference call. “There’s not much you’re going to do that’s much different during the Bye. We might add one more play to what we’ve been evaluating all along. I have no concerns with Brian Schneider, if that.” is what you mean by that. I think that’s what you’re implying and it didn’t occur to me at all. No, it didn’t occur to me at all. thought I was proud of us last night. I thought we faced a huge challenge I thought our guys played really hard and did a really good job of controlling KaVontae Turpin, who is one of the most. big game changers in this game I think we fixed a lot of issues on special teams. There’s a lot of changes in people, a lot of kids starting to play the ones we lost and having to replace them with new ones. new and working with lots of different people I expect us to improve throughout the year. I know it wasn’t good enough in this first half, not at all. But I thought last night was a step in the right direction and it was going to get better or worse and I expect us to get better.

Shanahan said the right thing. Firing Schneider after the season is the right decision, but the 49ers can’t fire him now and find improvement over him mid-season. Firing him now would be an emotional decision that would hurt the team.
