Man charged in death of Burnaby’s Ryan Nagy released on bail

Ousmaine Keita, 20, will live in Abbotsford under curfew and electronic monitoring while awaiting the resolution of his charges of manslaughter and false imprisonment.

One of four suspects charged in the death of 19-year-old Ryan Nagy in Burnaby in June 2023 has been released on bail with electronic monitoring.

Ryan Nagy died after a targeted “altercation” at a home in the 7600 block of 17th Avenue on June 29, 2023, according to police.

Burnaby RCMP were called to the residence around 7:05 a.m. following reports of a home invasion, according to a police news release at the time.

Officers located Nagy suffering from life-threatening injuries and he died at the scene.

A second victim was also found, with non-life-threatening injuries.

On September 14, Ousmaine Keita, 20, was accused of involuntary manslaughter and false imprisonment in this case with three co-defendants: Ali Shamkhi, 20 years old, Rhoda Diabikulu, 23 years old, and Rais Usman, 20 years old.

Keita appeared in Vancouver provincial court on Monday for a bail hearing.

He was released on $1,500 bail, according to the court registry.

Under his bail conditions, he must reside at a specific address in Abbotsford, with electronic monitoring and a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

While out on bail, he is prohibited from contacting certain members of Nagy’s family as well as a list of other people.

Due to a publication ban, information presented at Keita’s bail hearing, including the judge’s reasons for granting bail, cannot be made public.

Keita’s next court date is November 18

His co-defendants remain in detention, according to the court registry.
