Connor McDavid: Oilers star injured at start of game against Blue Jackets

The Edmonton Oilers, who allowed three goals on six shots at Nationwide Arena and trailed the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-0 after the first period, had more to worry about than making a comeback Monday night.

Captain Connor McDavid was tripped by the stick of Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski on his first shift and crashed heavily into the boards. He stood up and as he was walking up the ice, he signaled to the bench that he was in trouble and immediately left.

He went to the trainer’s room and it was later announced that he was suffering from a “lower body injury” and would miss the rest of the NHL game. McDavid has three goals and seven assists in the team’s first 10 games.

Sean Monahan, Adam Fantilli and Cole Sillinger scored for the Blue Jackets, outshot 11-6.
